3SIP2C Wins PRIME Award 2025 for Tackling Plastic Pollution with Communities

June 18, 2025

We are proud to announce that 3SIP2C has won the INVOLVE Award at the Principal’s Research Impact and Engagement Awards (PRIME) 2025.

This award honours research that is co-created with communities and ensures science is grounded in real-world needs.

Building on its INSPIRE Award in 2023, 3SIP2C was recognised for engaging directly with communities in Vietnam to address the global plastic pollution crisis.

  • Worked with over 700 fishers, aquaculture farmers, and tourism businesses to assess plastic waste impacts and co-design sustainable, practical solutions.
  • Engaged 76,000+ people through citizen science and public outreach — including beach clean-ups, waste audits, 3D storytelling, and art installations using collected plastic waste.
  • Collected and analysed 2,000+ environmental samples, published 30+ scientific outputs, and trained 200+ early-career researchers.
  • Held 4 policy roundtables, developed evidence-based policy briefs, and contributed to Vietnam’s national plastic strategy.
  • Launched international collaborations including Plastic: Conference – Dialogue – Exhibition, COP28 side events, and the Global Recycling Lectureship Programme

3SIP2C demonstrates that when research includes the voices of communities, youth, businesses, and policymakers, it leads to real environmental and policy change.

Thank you to all our collaborators, communities, and partners — together, we’re building a cleaner, more sustainable future
